Seriously Powerful Explainer Videos

Maximum video engagement – people just can’t help but watch these types of video!

One minute of video is worth 1.8m words, that’s according to Forrester Research’s Dr. James McQuivey. It’s easy to see why. People are busy. Competing for their time and attention online has never been more competitive. Video, particularly highly engaging video gets the strongest response from users on websites, on social media and on multiple platforms.

Hand written, whiteboard style videos produce an exceptional level of engagement. Users just can’t look away. Studies have shown whiteboard videos increase learning by 15%

Why Do Handwritten Whiteboard Style Videos Work So Well?

Dr Richard Wiseman is an expert in the psychology of human behaviour. A scientific-award-winning psychology professor behind 10 books and whose talks have been watched by millions of people. He knows his onions when it comes to this topic.

‘Absolutely massive’ increase in memory

Dr Wiseman filmed himself giving a talk and then created a handwritten, whiteboard style video covering the same topics in his talk. He then tested the recall power of the groups who watched each video in order to find out which one was the most effective at making information resonate and stick with the viewers.

The results were compelling.

There was a significant 15% rise in recall in the information retained by those who watched the whiteboard style video compared to those who had watched a video of himself explaining the same topics.

His view:

“Anyone involved in education or research will know that these findings are absolutely massive. Normally you have to work incredibly hard to get 5, maybe 10 percent increase in any kind of behavioural measure like that. Simply by animation, you’re seeing a 15 percent increase. We know that in order to remember something, you need to attend to it in the first place. If you haven’t got people’s attention, you’re not going to get the information in. I think what the animations do is hold that attention. They hold it in an incredibly engaging way.”
